Spanish-Venezuelan Elena Duque is a programmer, film critic, teacher and filmmaker. As a filmmaker, her work revolves around animation and collage, incorporating analog formats and ways of making films that revisit themes such as identity and sense of belonging through plastic exercises on places, objects and textures.

Her animated and experimental short films include La mar salada (2014), Valdediós (2019) and Colección privada (2000), all of which have been selected in several international festivals. She is also the author of the Dies curts 2023 header.

At the Filmoteca, we will be able to see and discuss these and other pieces with her, including her latest film, Mar de coral (2022), as well as a sample of the work carried out as part of the project she is developing at the Centro de Residencias Artísticas de Matadero Madrid, entitled Hacer/ver, in which she examines possible ways of relating cinema and painting from the point of view of materiality.

On the one hand, the super-8 film Ojitos mentirosos, in which Madrid's architectural Trompe-l'œil give rise to a cinematic investigation into this pictorial genre based on "fooling the eye" of those who contemplate it.

On the other hand, we will show part of the performance Curso de pintura rápida para principiantes, in which we will see a picture/film that is painted live while it is projected.
