Where can Indie films end up?

Why do Indie films find so much difficulty in getting somewhere?Even if you manage to finish yours, and Digital is a GREAT breakthrough nowadays in terms of cost effectiveness and technology, even if you manage to get it at a Festival or pay A LOT to get it into a BIG film market, it just seems to disappear, suffocated by the attention the bigger films are receiving.
