Expanding on last years debut festival, our events programme branches to experimental film and video works with a special collaborative performance event. HFF and LUX have co-curated a selection of visual and sound artists. Three duo's will perform together for the first time, premiering brand new works celebrating experimentation in live moving image and sound.
The Hackney Film Festival is a not-for-profit organisation and a collective of local filmmakers and artists. Our aim is to create a rich film culture within the London borough of Hackney, by creating a platform for local filmmakers and audio-visual artists to have their work showcased to the community and the wider audience of London. The Hackney Film Festival has been established for the benefit of the public through an annual event of film screenings, Q&As, live audio-visual performances and workshops.

HEATHER PHILLIPSON & MATT HAMMOND
Heather Phillipson works with moving image, sound, text and voice. She exhibits nationally and internationally and has received awards, commissions and residencies. In 2011, exhibitions and events include 'A Dying Artist' (ICA, London), 'Performance as Publishing' (The South London Gallery), Versuch: Notes and Projects (Hollybush Gardens, London), LUX touring programme (Eastside Projects, Birmingham), Portmanteau (Halle 14, Leipzig), BRUDERKRIEGSOUNDSYSTEM (ICA, London), 'Drawing and the Body' (KG52 Gallery, Stockholm), '3' (Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Wales) and The Stage Has Eyes (Vitrine Gallery/Shortwave Cinema, London). Phillipson is also an award-winning poet, published and broadcast widely, and regularly gives readings across the UK and in Europe. Recent commissioners and venues include the British Film Institute, Foyles, King's Place, Latitude Festival, Oxfam, Rough Trade, the Southbank Centre and the Whitechapel Gallery. Her pamphlet is published by Faber and Faber.
Matthew Hammond is a musician and writer living and working in London. As a musician his work is focused on group improvisation, dialogue and communication, collaborative creativity, the mechanisms of sound production, and physical and musical processes. Recent performances include the As Alike as Trees festival (with Gabriel Humberstone) and at Cafe Oto (with David Papapostolou and Arthur Swindells).
LUCY PARKER & TOM WHITE
Lucy Parker's practice is based in film and video and looks to explore the communicative possibilities of the medium – her films investigate matters of communication relating to pedagogical experiences. Recent screenings include Aurora Festival Norwich and Leeds International Film Festival. She currently works as a part time Lecturer in Film Art at the Arts University College Bournemouth.
Tom White (b. Rutland 1986) is an artist currently based in London. His work features across various multi-media platforms including sound, experimental film and video, installation and live performance.
Tom's recorded and commissioned work has been published since 2009, including his contribution to london publisher My Dance The Skull's Voice Studies series. This piece will also be performed with deaf actor Stephen Collins, at Milton Keynes Gallery.
For the inaugural Hackney Film Festival in 2010, he performed Moiling an on-going audio-visual project.
JENNA COLLINS & MARK PETER WRIGHT
Jenna Collins works with a mixture of browsed and self-generated material. Her practice pursues an enquiry into how we locate ourselves in the world in which we find ourselves and by what means we have, or imagine that we have, purchase on our environment. Graduating with distinction from MA Drawing at Camberwell College of Art in 2008, recent activity includes: OUTPOST film open touring program selected by Ben Cook of LUX, 2011; Gleaners residency and commission at the North West Film Archive, 2010; Practical Truths, Castflefield Gallery, Manchester; 50/50, commissioned by The Architecture Centre, Bristol and Noisy Image by the Work In Progress, Cafe Oto, London in 2009. Earlier work has been exhibited and screened internationally.
Mark Peter Wright [b. 1979, UK] is an award-winning artist based in London, UK. Through delicate intersection of sound, image, objects and text his work seeks to illuminate understandings of listening and place. His pre occupations with nature, industry, architecture and histories of migration and abandonment have inspired an acclaimed body of work that brings to debate political and cultural aesthetics of subjectivity and place.
He has exhibited, broadcast and published works across a variety of international venues, festivals, labels and media. In 2009 he received the British Composer of the Year Award [Sonic Arts] for his work A Quiet Reverie [2008]. In 2010 he was nominated for a Prix Ars Electronica award in Digital Musics & Sound Art. He is also the founder of Ear Room, an online resource co-published by Sound & Music.
