i am quite interested on that one. I have always been interested in performance as a concept and as a happening but i am struggling to understand why it should not really be within the video. That is only about my own work and my personal interest in live art.
A reason i perhaps feel slightly clueless is because i actually haven't seen much performance art live and not documented on a video/film format. And in fact although i live in London i don't very usually attend or hear of such work going on and if someone knows something i don't know please drop a line -
i 'd be grateful .
I've used the low tech method of vcr decks and camera all going into an anaogue mixer to a projector. Also with video feedback. Mixed like this for a few parties and for bands.
Pre recorded loops on mini Dv and VHS tape. Just mix with the DJ s or band.
Though now adays it can be quite synced to the music using software. Also this means that you can for installations, theatre and dance get the audience/performer to trigger the visuals with a variety of intefaces using Cycling74 s MAX/JITTER and also with MSP the sounds as well.
Puredata and GEM.
Down to something like simpler such as Archaos.
Not to mention that you get DVD decks that enable you to scratch video like vinyl.
But there is no hard and fast rule for what gets the right result.
So look for club events and installations. Which is why we need an installation forum as mentioned before else where.
i do my music live quite a lot i regard that as more performance art than a musical 'gig' although i dont really do and performing, just kinda sit there surrounded my toys and junk! next show im doing ( http://users.tinyonline.co.uk/ian.simpson/ian.simpson/pyramid/freeform%2... )
are provididng free projector visuals but ive no idea how that stuff works will be interesting i might try projecting some of my video stuff, might lead in a new direction.
This forum would be a good way to set up something interesting if ther eare enough people interested in doing some performance/live art in the same sort of area they could set something up. if there are a few people in the uk can find a venue i would be up for travelling
I've been in the last few days going back to Ableton Live, recording it's it's input and them importing into Logic Audio. At this rate I might get the Akai out......rather than going into Reason.
Ambient soundscapes agogo....not new age at all but dark mysterious. It seems to go with me I overdose on visuals and then have to do audio.....
and then the process reverses.....
Funny the same processes for making audio is linked to making visuals.
It's all frequencies.
Prehaps it's something to do with the Sound workshops I am doing over the next three months and a video piece for next month.
As in a performance context for an audience?

Also http://fo.am/ are an arts collective that extensively use the MAX/JITTER/MSP in the creation of enviroments.
