Robert Todd was not the man of certainties, dogmas, theories.
He was a lyrical and inspired artist.

Born a year after the creation of the New York Film-Makers' Cooperative, he no longer had (or exceptionally as in Undergrowth) the need to make such overt films as Walden by Jonas Mekas (1964-1968), Stan Brakhage's Scenes from Under Childhood (1967-1970) or Tom, Tom the Piper's Son by Ken Jacobs (1969), to prove respectively the coherence and the legitimacy of the filmed diary, the emergence of a language that would escape the normalized eye or , again, the organic powers of found footage.

"Experimental cinema was already a thing for Robert who had been bathing in it for a long time, he had to use it and (re) model it with his sensitivity." - Raphael Bassan
