Notes For An Aleatory Flame is a personal manifesto of cinematic self expression flipped into speculative entryway for possibilities of communion with fresh & unforeseen personal methodologies. Through inquisitive poetics, this essay functions as a call for the self as image-making-instrument to slice through the media manure by engaging in the necromantic act of reinvigorating cinematic ruin. Martinod’s words beckon us to traverse new realms through the creation of portals and to witness reality through our personal relations with images.

Jean-Jacques is a filmmaker, multimedia artist, radio DJ, educator and co-founder of Evidence House. His works oscillate among modalities of hybrid cinemas using methodologies that experiment with found materials, celluloid film, analog tape, digital media, synesthetic operations, personal mythologies, and travelogues. His works have screened in venues that include Cinemateca do MAM Rio de Janeiro, the Museum of the Moving Image, LACDA, International Film Festival Rotterdam, FIDMarseille, EMAF, Mar del Plata, Images Festival, Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival, Experiments in Cinema, as well as DIY and artist-led spaces. “Notes for An Aleatory Flame” is his first chapbook.
