  • VideoGarden.9: Short films by Jean-Jacques Martinod

    The new season of VideoGarden (VideoDvorišče) events is starting with a guest programme by the Ecuadorian experimental filmmaker Jean-Jacques Martinod. Together with co-director and cinematographer Bretta C. Walker, they will present a selection of short films and the background behind their creation. A selection of poetic, meditative films addresses liminal emotional and spatial personal experiences and reflections on the coexistence of human and nature.

  • On Performance. Short Circuit Call for Films

    Short Circuit show thought-provoking short films that have their roots in documentary. Now well established our themed screenings in Brighton invite emerging, established and award winning artists and filmmakers to share their often unconventional approaches to documentary storytelling.

    We are seeking submissions for ON PERFORMANCE an Autumn screening of experimental short films that draw attention to the trials and triumphs, vision and execution of 'the performance' in all its contrasting and unexpected guises.

  • Eye Art & Film Prize Exhibition

    In this exhibition, Eye presents the work of three recent winners of the Eye Art & Film Prize: Meriem Bennani (2019), Kahlil Joseph (2020) and the Karrabing Film Collective (2021). The prize is awarded to makers who bring together art and film in an innovative, inspiring and highly artistic way. What is notable about the work of the three winning artists is their committed engagement with the world and the way they effortlessly cross the boundaries between cinema, documentary and visual art.

  • Into the Mothlight Podcast - New Episodes

    Into The Mothlight, the podcast dedicated to artists’ moving image, experimental film and festivals and installation art, has new episodes out. EP. 33 features an interview with New York filmmaker Mark Street, whilst EP.34 looks at the work of Julia Parks, an artist filmmaker working in rural Scotland. Both artist work with analogue film, often hand-processing super 8mm and 16mm film stock.

    Presented for the first time in Los Angeles, URANIUM HEX: THE NUCLEAR FILMS OF SANDRA LAHIRE introduces four important works by the British experimental feminist filmmaker exploring the feminist anti-nuclear, anti-war movement of the 1980's alongside deeply personal narratives of sickness, contamination and corporeal vulnerability of both the self and land.The program will be introduced by archivist and programmer Charlotte Procter (London, UK) with artist P. Staff (Los Angeles, USA).

  • DIM Cinema: Meriem Bennani

    This astonishing, wildly inventive trio of recent videos by Meriem Bennani begins with the tender, funny, and infinitely relatable 2 Lizards (2020). A collaboration with Orian Barki, the work is composed of eight ​episodes” that were posted by the artists on Instagram at the onset of the pandemic, a chronicle, spoken through lizardy avatars, of their disrupted lives.
