  • 2014 BIEFF Experimental Film Workshop Call for participants

    By on

The Experimental Film Workshop is organized by NISI MASA European Network of Young Cinema, under the frame of Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival (BIEFF), whose fifth edition will be held this year in between the 10th  and 14th of December. For the workshop, 2014 marks the third edition.

During the 10-day workshop (5th-14th December 2014) 25 international filmmakers and visual artists aged 18-35 will be guided by tutors and work on experimental filmmaking. Together, they will produce short film experiments that will be premiered on the very last day of the festival. The working method of the workshop is collaboration, reflection and sharing with fellow participants, with the aim of learning, exploring and developing creativity together.

This year’s approach wishes to encourage and support the relationship between film, music and mapping, aiming to render obsolete the gap between the screen and the audience by making the whole process - from conception to screening - a great interactive experience for all those involved.

  • Videofocus 10th Edition International Call

    By on

Since its foundation, Stigmart10 has encouraged a conception of art based on a dynamic dialogue between artists and audience which reflects the interactive nature of the creation process itself. Due to the advent of technologies like DSLR and microbudget cinecameras, in the last decade it came a true revolution in the video field. The fusion of differents worlds, like videoart, experimental cinema, and even fashion video and corageus documentary is attested by the increasing number of videoartists cooperating with filmmakers in the last decade, though this synergy is not limited to the improvement of the overall quality in mainstream cinema terms, but shows the great potential of a new generation of artists able to renew the cinematographic language itself from the inside.

Whether it falls under the heading of artfilm or experimental movie, you are invited to submit your work to the Biennial Edition of Videofocus, our special Stigmart issue focused on video. A special section of our next issue will be dedicated to cinematographers: it is possible to send your reels too.

  • Field Broadcast/LUX Collection Residency

    By on

Field Broadcast and LUX are delighted to announce a new collaborative residency programme based at LUX in association with Field Broadcast's live broadcast programme. Proposals are invited from artists and curators to undertake a research-based residency within the LUX collection, Europe's largest collection of artists' film and video, leading to the creation of a live broadcast screening event during the residency period at LUX.

Founded in 1966, the LUX Collection represents over 6000 works by more than 1500 artists dating from the early twentieth century to the present day. Originally established with a policy of open access submission, the changing nature of the organisation and its acquisition policies over the decades have created an eclectic combination of well-known and near unseen works, spanning experimental film, performance, essay film through to contemporary digital video.

  • Dallas Medianale

    By on

In 1986, the program Video As A Creative Medium was presented at the Dallas Museum of Art. That weekend of screenings quickly grew into what has become the Dallas VideoFest, now in its 27th year, and the Video Association of Dallas, an organization committed to the exhibition of independent, alternative, and non-commercial media. Since those early years, the association has worked hard to make a place for the hard to define field(s) of media art that go by many inadequate names: “video art”, “experimental film and video”, or “new media”. In January of 2015, the VAD will work with the McKinney Avenue Contemporary to present The Dallas Medianale, a group of exhibitions focused on presenting the various forms of moving image practice in a more ideal environment than the traditional “film festival” model can provide.
