The Small-FIle Media Festival is pleased to announce that this year's festival will be running IN PERSON from August 9-15 at the Simon Fraser University School for the Contemporary Arts! This year's festival will not only feature in person screenings but will include small-file workshops and the inaugural Small File Tiny Music Festival!

S8 Mostra de Cinema Periférico 2022

The (S8) International Peripheral Film Festival (Mostra Internacional de Cinema Periférico) of A Coruña unveiled much of its programme. The festival will be held from next 27 May to 5 June in venues like the Domus, the Luis Seoane Foundation, the Palexco Hall and the Port of A Coruña.In the words of the director, Ángel Rueda, "The festival works in the present for the future, which is why we are presenting a festival this time in which we are working for new audiences with the aim of bringing young people from the small screen to the big one, shifting from individualism to the collective experience of the cinema theatre."

Due to their opposing characteristics, light and dark have been employed throughout the history of filmmaking to create shadow and visual effects. However, the visual characteristics of “black” often make us “blind” to it. From a re-exploration of the development of filmmaking techniques, there is ubiquitous use of black in film production and screening, from the effects of metallic silver grains to the evolution of formal film language and the arrangement of screening spaces.

Experiments in Cinema is a non-competitive festival produced by Basement Films and based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This year we celebrate our 17th festival and our 3rd virtual festival. We are thrilled to share the festival in full and free of charge to everyone in the international community in this virtual format, and we look forward to welcoming you all back to the meat space of the Guild Cinema in Albuquerque in 2023.

68th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen

The 68th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen is opening its first hybrid edition on Saturday, 30 April 2022. In the first part, the Festival is showing the International and German Online Competitions exclusively on the Internet, followed by the official opening ceremony in the Oberhausen cinemas on 4 May. This marks the Festival’s return to the cinema after two online editions due to COVID. For the first time since 2019, Daniel Schranz, Lord Mayor of the City of Oberhausen, will officially welcome the guests in Oberhausen on behalf of the city.
