The University of Salford in association with CUBE Gallery is delighted to announce that Limelight, a public art commission by Sans façon artists Tristan Surtees and Charles Blanc will be taking place after dark on the Piazza at MediaCityUK from 17th October to 19th October.
Over the past 12 months in cities around the world, sidewalks were turned into impromptu stages by swapping streetlights for theatre spotlights, now, as daylight fades, Salford Quays welcomes Limelight.
The spotlight attracted the young and the old, solo performers and couples, families and folks out for a night out. Some avoided the limelight, slinking around its edge like jail breakers avoiding the watchtowers light, whilst others bathed in it whole-heartedly. Performances have been spontaneous, surprising, and often quite touching. They ranged from the hilarious, the tipsy, the tender and the skilful but above all the romantics hogged the light. Displays included all manner of dance moves, from graceful stag leaps to the robot dance, serenades and passionate canoodling.
