    80WSE is pleased to present Up The Illusion, a momentous survey exhibition celebrating the 90th birthday of Ken Jacobs, one of our most iconic and indefatigable moving image artists. Curated by Andrew Lampert, this street level exhibition features a panoramic selection of Jacobs’ nearly 70 years of pioneering films and digital videos in the Broadway Windows gallery located on the corner of Broadway and E. 10th Street.

  • Cinema of Sensations: The Never-Ending Screen of Val del Omar

    Museum of the Moving Image will present a major exhibition devoted to the work of José Val del Omar (1904–1982), a visionary Spanish artist, filmmaker, and inventor who approached cinema as a multisensory experience. Presented in collaboration with the Val del Omar Archive, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, and the Max Estrella Gallery, and organized by guest curator Almudena Escobar López, Cinema of Sensations brings Val del Omar’s immersive cinematic installations to U.S.

    For the creation of their first experimental film In Repetito Religare, Audrey Colard and Valentin Sismann exhibit at The Film Gallery (Paris) on March 8th and 9th 2023.

    In Repetito Religare is Audrey Colard and Valentin Sismann's first film, which they claim to be a symbolic and committed experimental film. In the various temporalities of repetition, continuity and memory, In Repetito Religare depicts an aging, obese and breathless humanity locked in attempts at inharmonic dialogue of bodies where what makes a link is also what kills.

  • Cut frames, Captured pixels: found footage, film, & video

    Found footage filmmaking is a practice involving reappropriating and remixing previously shot or created materials for new, innovative purposes. Filmmakers working in this tradition utilize many different methods of transforming moving images—from physically manipulating motion-picture film to juxtaposing disparate content through clever editing to glitching digital video and video game software—to critically examine its original meaning, context, and cultural significance.

    Diorama Room Arts presents Tune in to Green – Minor Chord II, our annual autumn show, which features experimental sound and short films, under five minutes, that fit the somber mood of the season. Using animation, 16mm film, video with and without effects, the artists featured in the show speak to the human relationship with nature poetically and philosophically. Themes such as death, grief, strange creatures, and Dia de los Muertos are touched upon.
